Well, I finished the guitar for my wife and was about ready to give it to her tomorrow when she returns from our church's women's retreat! It would be a nice welcome home present! ******BUT******* something else arose.....there is a buzz when I strum the A string and it only happens with the open A string....no buzz when I fret at any position...strum softly or hard...same result ![]() Any ideas? TIA |

Peter have you checked the nut slot for the A string to make sure the string isn't hanging up? |

What Bob said, and also check to see if it's a little low and making slight contact with the first fret. |

Not that it happens much on the lower thicker strings, but I certainly see it on the B and E every once and a while -the slot may have a bit of a side to side flair to it, where the string leaves the slot towards the first fret - the string then can rattle between the sides of the flair and buzz. Hopefully you have enough room to drop the slaot another hair, it usually only takes a couple strokes with the nut file to fix. |

If it only buzzes played open,Its probably the nut in my experiance but sometimes these buzzes are sneaky and hard to find ! Very nice guitar BTW. |

Peter, Great looking guitar. I'm sure your wife will be very happy with it. Any chance of you posting a picture of the rosette? |

Peter, looks like one sweet guitar!!! I am sure you will figure out the buzz, expecially with help from the pros here on OLF. Did you design the bridge and headstock from scratch? I love the bridge and want to move away from the Martin style bridges I use. Any thoughts? |

Rich, the headstock and bridge are my original designs... My first 4 guitars I used Martin kinda look a like bridges but the last 2 have been fitted with this last design wich features a pinless bridge design like J. Elliot invented! |

If you don't find your buzz in the nut, it could also be in one of the first couple of frets. Make double sure they're level and the slot for the A string in the nut is not too low. If none of this finds it, also look at your tuners (tight?) and then make sure there is at least a little tension on your truss rod. I mean that it's not 100% in a neutral position. They will buzz also. Good luck. Beautiful guitar. |
